New ReedPOP New York Comic Show Is More About … Comics

One thing that’s certainly true about some high profile comic book shows and conventions is that they aren’t as focused on comics as they were, say, 10 years ago. The San Diego Comic Con is the most obvious example, as it’s morphed into an (admittedly awesome) all-around pop culture behemoth. The Wizard shows have turned increasingly to movies and TV stars for their guest lists, and the one closest to me, in Philly, doesn’t even have big corporate booths from Marvel and DC like it did in days gone by.

Even shows like New York Comic Con, which isn’t even a decade old, has experienced the same trend as it’s grown. With that in mind, ReedPOP officially announced a new show called Special Edition: NYC which will debut on June 14 at Javits Center North. It’s intended to be “in addition to” and not “instead of” the larger NYCC , and the guest list is focused almost exclusively on comic book creators.

Twenty artists and writers have already been revealed as show guests, including Alex Maleev, Dustin Nguyen, Frank Cho, Greg Pak, Kyle Higgins, Nick Bradshaw and Tim Seeley. ReedPOP seems to be onto something here, and it will be interesting to see how fans respond.

Tickets for Special Edition: NYC go on sale at noon EST on February 26, with single-day admissions priced at $30 and VIP weekend badges going for $150.
