Before the end of the season, the love interest/cellist from Agent Phil Coulson’s past is going to get a face on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. — and it’s one that will be familiar to fans of Joss and Jed Whedon’s previous work.

Amy Acker will play Audrey, the cellist who Coulson had to leave behind to carry on with his duties with S.H.I.E.L.D. She thinks Coulson is dead, and though he’s been forced to leave her alone, he may have to rethink that stance when “a super-powered threat from her past re-emerges.”

Acker’s appearance in the April 22 episode of the show sounds like it will continue two trends that have emerged during the series’ first season: more super powers and more ways that the agents’ back stories reverberate into the present. It’s unknown whether the actress will feature in more than one episode, so the reunion could be a tragic one.

Whedon followers may remember Acker from roles on Angel or Dollhouse, and she and Clark Gregg both were involved in Joss Whedon’s version of Much Ado About Nothing. Her current gig is as a hacker/assassin on Person of Interest, where she graduated from recurring status to the main cast this season.

Poor Coulson never seems to catch a break for long, but maybe this time will be different. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is back with a new episode next week on April 1.
