Batman 75th Anniversary Logo Revealed

Expect to see that logo above a lot over the rest of 2014.

Warner Bros. and DC showed it off for the first time yesterday, getting ready for the 75th anniversary of Batman’s first appearance in Detective Comics #27. Bruce Wayne’s nocturnal alter ego is one that you can say without hyperbole has impacted not just comics, but pop culture as a whole since Bob Kane and Bill Finger first brought him to life.

Fittingly, Batman is getting an anniversary celebration worth remembering, with things like Batman Day on July 23, the upcoming Batman Eternal weekly comic book series and new releases of classic Batman movies on Blu-Ray and DVD (but alas, no new films this year). The Gotham TV show, which won’t see Wayne become Batman until its conclusion but will explore the earlier lives of Jim Gordon and some famous villains, is also gearing up.

That’s a lot of Batman, but the general public has shown in the past that it will get on board any time you push him. I’m old enough to remember the release of the first Tim Burton Batman movie in 1989, and hype and merchandise for the Dark Knight was everywhere.

The 75th anniversary probably won’t approach that level of mania, but it should still be a fantastic one for fans. DC has a special site set up at www.Batman75.com to keep track of everything it has planned (though right now, it simply directs readers to the normal Batman character site), and we also have a sister site, Caped Crusades, which will no doubt be keeping abreast of all the festivities.
