New Super Hero Comics On Sale: Week Of June 25

I try to keep it balanced when it comes to the two publishers putting out new super hero comics, but most weeks I feel like Marvel has the main talking point when I’m writing an intro to the list of new releases. Not this week. DC has the biggest thing going, which is the creative team of Geoff Johns and John Romita Jr. taking the reins on Superman. Love his work or hate it, Johns really needs no introduction, and you’ve got to believe he’ll bring his ‘A’ game. And this is JR Jr.’s first work for DC after decades of high-profile books for the competition, so his involvement is noteworthy in its own right. It will be interesting to see if they can elevate Superman to the status the book deserves.

On the Marvel side, the book that jumped out at me the most was Uncanny Avengers, where Rick Remender’s first big story arc is finally supposed to come to a conclusion in issue #21. That’s playing the long game friends, and whether you dug the story or not, you’ve got to be impressed with that kind of planning — or at least you do if he brings it to a close in a way that’s both entertaining and logical.
