New Extended Guardians Of The Galaxy Trailer Gets Up Close And Personal With Ronan
By Nick Tylwalk
Some people, like our own Steve Lam, were lucky enough to have already seen 17 minutes of footage from Guardians of the Galaxy. The rest of us will have to content ourselves with decidedly smaller chunks of Marvel’s upcoming super hero/sci-fi romp, though even these have been enough to fan the flames of excitement.

The new extended trailer for the UK market that hit today definitely does that, showing us a lot more of the film’s main villain, Ronan the Accuser. Played by Lee Pace, Ronan is a Kree warrior just like he is in the comics, though it remains to be seen if he shares his print counterpart’s ethical code. Considering what Pace has revealed about his character’s motivations, it doesn’t look like it, especially as he’s in the trailer threatening to destroy whole planets.
As an added bonus, there’s more of Karen Gillan as Nebula, and it looks like she’ll be ready to throw down big time with Gamora. Both of the movie’s main female characters have very personal links to Thanos, giving him very obvious reasons to be lurking as the shadowy evil behind the scenes.
To top it all off, Groot takes Star-Lord’s side in an argument, at least if Rocket’s translation is accurate. It looks like the big tree-like alien thinks 12 percent of a plan is enough. Watch the trailer and see what I mean:
Guardians of the Galaxy will be in U.S. theaters everywhere on August 1.
