Filming is already well under way for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, so it’s normal for story speculations to be swirling about. We previously reported on images of mass destruction, a fallen Wayne Financial sign, and Ben Affleck spotted as Bruce Wayne. Via Badass Digest, we’re getting rumors of Batman’s and another hero’s characterization in the upcoming movie.
WARNING: This information may be considered a spoiler for some people.
To all readers, please take this rumor with a very heavy grain of salt. According to Devin Faraci of Badass Digest, the Dark Knight in Dawn of Justice will be a vigilante who has been at it for almost thirty years. Even though he’s been in operation for quite a while, no one has hard evidence of his existence. Here’s the best part of the report: this Batman may have already lived through the death of one Robin. Most of this information is gleaned from Faraci’s report:
My sources indicate that when BvS opens Batman has existed for close to thirty years, which would place Wayne in his 50s (which is why I expected more grey in Affleck’s hair). In this version Batman is still an urban legend, a creature of the night, and no one has ever taken his picture. But he’s had plenty of adventures, and the Batcave includes a memorial centered around a tattered Robin costume.
The key line in Faraci’s quote is “the Batcave includes a memorial centered around a tattered Robin costume.” Could this off-screen death be the one previously rumored as Jason Todd’s? Faraci continues on how this backstory would be unique from the past Batman incarnations we’ve already seen on film:
I do quite like this little tidbit, though, because it gives us a sense of a very different Batman than we’ve ever seen in the movies. This sets Affleck’s version apart from Bale and the others easily – he’s a quieter operator, not involved in blockbuster battles but in all sorts of badass vigilantism.
I would have to agree with Faraci. This would actually juxtapose Batman even further from Superman — as our Man of Steel has already been involved in a highly exposed bout of city-wide destruction. With differing philosophies on crime fighting, their rivalry will be much more apparent to the audience and align even stronger with the comic book source material. I’m excited to see if Dick Grayson (with or without his Nightwing persona) will be mentioned or even make an appearance in the film. Could Tim Drake also come into the picture? This report definitely ignites some exciting fan speculation on where director Zack Snyder and screenwriter Chris Terrio are taking this saga.
But we’re not finished yet. The report also included some rumors on Wonder Woman! It seems that her backstory will be similar to Batman’s:
… my sources tell me that Wonder Woman has also been in operation for some time before Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice begins, and her activities have been just as secretive as Batman’s. Her activities were badass as well… but in a very different, and unexpected, way.
Both Batman’s and Wonder Woman’s developments are starting to make Man of Steel a much more logical movie now. If both of these heroes (we’re not even talking about the additional ones like Aquaman) have been in the shadows all this time, Superman’s appearance will suddenly bring attention to them. The conflict will certainly be upped if these vigilantes blame Superman for putting the spotlight on them.
Again, this report should be taken as pure speculation until we can confirm it, or when WB/DC actually releases an official plot synopsis. Exciting times ahead!
