Exclusive Justice League Animated Mini-Series Headed To Machinima

Now here’s an interesting pairing of outlet and super hero programming: Variety reports that Machinima, the online network and YouTube powerhouse, is getting its own three-part Justice League animated series (anime fans would call that an OVA). Entitled Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles, it will debut next spring and focus on an alternate world with “much darker versions” of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman.

And … you just lost me. We don’t really need a “darker” take on DC when it’s plenty dark as is.

What’s that? Bruce Timm and Alan Burnett are involved? Ah, crap, I think I just got reeled back in.

DC Entertainment president Diane Nelson had this to say to Variety:

"We are committed to delivering DC Entertainment’s extensive line-up of world-class characters and stories to audiences across all platforms and formats. ‘Justice League: Gods and Monsters’ is an exciting opportunity to bring alternate versions of DC Comics’ iconic Justice League characters to Machinima, and we look forward to bringing this new animated shortform series to life with our partners across Warner Bros."

Sounds like a good way to commit to trying something new without really risking anything, as if it bombs, DC can shrug it off as an Elseworlds-type deal, and if it succeeds, Warner Bros. will know its investment in Machinima could pay even more dividends with DC properties.

We’ll add it to the ever-growing list of super hero material we need to watch in 2015.
