Marvel Reveals Final Rocket Raccoon And Groot Variant Of 2014

They might be best pals forever, but Rocket Raccon and Groot are eventually going to see their run of variant covers on Marvel comics come to an end.

They’re not going out without one last hurrah though, and it’s coming in the form of a special unannounced variant that has now conveniently been announced. Simon Bianchi is doing the honors for the final Rocket and Groot variant of the year on Spider-Woman #2, which goes on sale December 17.

Love that blurb admitting it has nothing to do with Spider-Woman! Anyway, the cover pays homage to Amazing Spider-Man #129, which featured the first appearance of the Punisher, so there’s some history referenced here too.

“We were totally overwhelmed by the response to the Rocket Raccoon & Groot variants when we released them last month,” Marvel SVP Sales & Marketing David Gabriel said in a statement. “When Simone Bianchi said he wanted to do one too, we couldn’t resist! We couldn’t be happier with the stunning cover he turned in.”

Note that this is only guaranteed to be the final time the buddies appear on variant covers in 2014. Could that leave the door open to more next year? Did Guardians of the Galaxy clean up at the box office?
