#26 – WB Animation: Adapting More DC Storylines

Batman: The Killing Joke was announced last year at Comic-Con 2015 and the reaction to that news was overwhelmingly positive. With a very aggressive and accelerated one year schedule, the wizards at Warner Bros. Animation were able to pull off a feature-length animated film.

The premiere of the film will be at Comic-Con 2016 and it will be the first R-rated endeavor for a DC animated film. For the rest of us who aren’t attending Comic-Con 2016, Fathom Events will have a special one-night screening of the film on July 25, 2016. It will later be released digitally on July 26, 2016. A Deluxe Edition and Combo Pack Blu-ray of the film will be released on August 2, 2016.

Seeing how much popularity this film has garnered, I hope Warner Bros. Animation announces the adaptation of other “edgy” stories from DC Comics. Here are some titles that I hope will one day see life on celluloid: Superman: Red Son, Batman: Gotham by Gaslight, Green Lantern: Blackest Night, and Batman: Sword of Azrael.
