Joe Russo has revealed if Captain Marvel will show up in Avengers: Infinity War.

More from Movies

We all know by now that Avengers: Infinity War will unite many of the heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The new banner that recently dropped at San Diego Comic-Con is clear evidence of that. However, one of the heroes who is noticeably absent from the picture is Captain Marvel. Her involvement has been up in the air for a while, but now, co-director Joe Russo has provided some clarity.

Russo spoke with ComicBook.com at San Diego Comic-Con, and when asked about Captain Marvel showing up in Infinity War, he gave a brief but straight answer:

"“She’s not in Avengers 3.”"

Well, that answers that question. Actually, the fact that she won’t be showing up in the first of the Avengers films is understandable. Avengers: Infinity War will be released before the character’s solo film. With this, the folks at Marvel probably want to reserve her debut for that movie.

Also, because of the film’s particular plot, it simply may not be necessary to have her appear. One thing the Russo Brothers proved in Captain America: Civil War (2016) is they know when and how to bring characters into a story.

Although she’ll be skipping out on the first film, it is still very possible she’ll appear in the Untitled Avengers Sequel. Due to the gravity of the story, just about every MCU hero (except for the Netflix ones) could potentially appear in the finale. And, of course, this is a cosmic tale, so why wouldn’t one of Marvel’s greatest cosmic heroines be involved in some capacity .

Avengers: Infinity War arrives in theaters on May 4, 2018 and the Untitled Avengers Sequel lands on May 3, 2019.
