Why didn’t Wonder Woman make the FanSided 250 this year?

The 2019 FanSided 250 is out!

This list ranks the most buzz-worthy fandoms across sports and entertainment of the year. On it, you’ll see popular names like Kofi Kingston and Becky Lynch from WWE, your favorite sports teams like the Golden State Warriors, and even actors like Brad Pitt. This year, however, there were fewer superhero categories than normal.

Even though Marvel Comics fandom is in the top spot, there was one character that shockingly wasn’t on the list. Wonder Woman was left off.

Despite not having been in any movie theaters this year, Wonder Woman fans are a dedicated group. She’s been a great representation of strong women for decades. At one point, she may have been the only female superhero worth talking about. Other than Wonder Woman: Bloodlines, there weren’t any projects starring Wonder Woman. It’s weird not seeing her on the list, especially with Wonder Woman 1984 coming out next year. Maybe if the trailer had come out sooner, this would have put her on the list. What could be the reason she didn’t make the list? It’s simple. It’s become popular to make fun of DC Comics.

More from DCEU

Ever since Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, people have been criticizing DC Comics theatrical releases. The “Why did you say that name!?” memes are still being made. Then, Justice League came out and the jokes kept on coming. The part that doesn’t make sense is that Wonder Woman is probably the best of all the DCEU movies. On top of that, her solo movie was a hit at the box office. Regardless of all the praise, people love to make fun of DC Comics movies. They’ll find anything they can to make a joke about them. This could possibly mean it’s bled over to the comic books as well.

It’s unfortunate that the negative responses mean people are missing out. The DC Comics movies may not have been incredible, but they are entertaining. If the theory of this bleeding into the comic is right, that’s a shame. DC Comics has been on a roll over the last few years. The Year of the Villain has been a must-read. Most of the crossover events and regular issues have been phenomenal. This means that people may not be praising Wonder Woman in public. The could be worrying that they’ll have to deal with internet trolls for loving their favorite character, even though she’s a hero who you can depend on to be good.

Next. FanSided 250: Marvel fans rightfully named the best in the world. dark

Not being on this list won’t hurt Wonder Woman in the long run. She’s one of the premier comic book heroes and one of the most recognized characters of all time. We don’t need a list to know that. However, when Wonder Woman 1984 comes out, she’ll be back in the FanSided 250 again; most likely in either the top ten or five spot. Once that happens, it won’t matter how many people talk bad about her (even though they shouldn’t). All we have to do is point at the movie she put out and let the Amazonian goddess speak for herself. Especially after we get to see her in the gold eagle armor.
