Will there be a complete Marvel reboot?
I’ll just go straight out there and say it. There’s been talk that Marvel are going to completely reboot their comics. That means starting all over again, new origins, new heroes, new villains, new moments. That means Gwen Stacey didn’t die, Peter Parker wasn’t cloned, Doctor Octopus didn’t take over Peter’s body, basically none of it happened.
Now, I’m sure you’re all thinking that this would take some sort of monumental storyline, some sort of absolutely insane happening to justify all of the events of the last 75 years of Marvel comic books being completely wiped out. But why on earth has this rumour started, why would people even begin to contemplate this cataclysmic event happening.
Well, Rich Johntson from Bleeding Cool reported on the Diamond Retailer Summit at Las Vegas in May and Marvel made a huge announcement for May 2015 with a storyline that would affect all Marvel comics across the board as ‘Time Runs Out’. The teaser image had two planets near collision and you can see it below.
Whatever a Spider Can’s very own sister site Bam Smack Pow! even had a comment on the matter courtesy of Nick Tylwalk, he said “I would consider an honest to goodness, starting over from scratch and throwing continuity out the window reboot to be highly unlikely. Though I think true leaders in any industry appreciate the idea that it’s good to shake things up a bit from time to time to stay on top, I tend to side with those who think that as the number one comics publisher, Marvel would be taking a long-term risk for a short-term game by pressing the reset button.
So, get used to Peter Parker, Miguel O’Hara and Miles Morales whilst you can, there’s a chance that Spider-Man will never be the same again when it comes to May 2015. There’s a chance the Marvel universe will never be the same again.
