35. The Avengers – “I’ll have that drink now.”

This is the end result of several great Marvel Cinematic Universe moments playing out, though not in succession. Joss Whedon chose to space them out over the course of The Avengers, and to great effect.

While Tony Stark is stalling for time waiting for his new armor to be finished, he offers Loki a drink. His offer is politely declined, but despite being a gracious host, Tony is rather rudely thrown out a window — which also leads to a pretty cool moment, as the hot-off-the-assembly-line armor flies down to meet him (just before) he splatters on the pavement.

In any case, Tony cautioned Loki that the Avengers had a Hulk on their side, but the God of Mischief didn’t heed that warning. It ended … badly for him.

He’s still in the same spot the Hulk left him when the battle against the Chitauri is complete, and coming to, Loki sees the entire angry squad looking at him, not to mention Hawkeye pointing an arrow in his face. Sensing that the day is lost and his situation hopeless, he says with a sad smile, “If it’s all the same to you, I’ll have that drink now.”

Tom Hiddleston delivers the line with just a touch of a sad smile and a perfect dramatic pause, which help make it very fitting for a defeated trickster.
