If you’re a comic book fan, you’ve created your own super heroes in your head at some point. We’ve all done it. Now LINE Webtoon and Stan Lee’s POW! Entertainment (a company whose name we fully approve of here at Bam Smack Pow) are teaming up for a contest to get the best undiscovered super hero gem out of the head of its creator and onto LINE Webtoon.
The digital comics service announced the Superhero Comics Contest today, giving every hopeful the chance to win money — $30,000 for first place — guidance and feedback from Stan the Man and POW! Entertainment and the opportunity to have their comic published on LINE Webtoon. The first prize winner will get all of those rewards, and the second, third and fourth place finishers will also have the opportunity to become paid, featured LINE Webtoon artists.
“The next hit comic artist is out there, and we at LINE Webtoon are determined to find them and give them the tools they need to tell compelling stories for all to enjoy,” JunKoo Kim, Founder and Head of LINE Webtoon, said in a press release. “Whoever wins will truly change their lives with a chance for Stan Lee to encourage them in the making of the next epic superhero.”
Artists 14 years of age or older can enter by submitting at least three chapters of their original super hero comic via the official contest entry page. Entries are being accepted through December 13, and winners will be chosen by Lee’s POW! Entertainment team and the LINE Webtoon editors.
“Wow! What a kick it is for me to be able to discover new talent, and LINE Webtoon has given artists a great place to show off their stuff and break into the industry,” Lee said in a press release. “I’m truly thrilled and am looking forward to providing feedback to the lucky winner through the exciting process of making a superhero.”
Even if you’re not planning on entering yourself, you can help narrow the field down by voting to determine the 20 preliminary qualifiers from December 14 to January 3. The winners will be announced on January 11, so head to LINE Webtoon and get involved now.
