#6 – MCU: Announcing Who Has Won the Part of Captain Marvel

I was never a fan of Rhonda Rousey playing the part of Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel. First off, she doesn’t have the acting chops. Second, she looks nothing like the character in any way, other than the blonde hair. If you’re going to go by that lone feature, then any blonde actress could play that part. You can then expand that to any actress since hair can just be dyed.

If you look at the current actors and actresses in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, you’ll notice that all of them are talented in embodying their respective roles to a T—and that’s what makes the MCU so compelling. Marvel understands that characters drive stories. Audiences care about the protagonists they’re watching.

I’m happy that Rousey never got the part and that Marvel is taking some time to search for the perfect actress. But we’re in dire need of some solo female superhero movies. The only other immediate one will be 2017’s Wonder Woman from rival Warner Bros. / DC.

Marvel’s Captain Marvel is set for a release date of March 8, 2019. That’s a very long almost three-year wait for such a great character. Now, one name that’s been rumored has me very interested—Brie Larson. As an actress who has won an Academy Award—for her phenomenal performance in Room (2015)—she will make a very compelling Carol Danvers.
