2. The Lego Batman Movie

If it wasn’t for the next film on this list, The Lego Batman Movie would’ve been the best superhero movie of the year. The film is the only DC movie that gets the character of Batman right. Yes, the Christopher Nolan films portrayed one of the best Batmans to ever appear on the big screen, but The Lego Batman Movie showed us a Batman that feels more in line with the caped crusader we fell in love with in the comics and TV shows.

The film’s Batman is not only filled with conflict due to the death of his parents, he is also reluctant to form any type of emotional connection with anyone. This becomes a recurring theme throughout the film, existing predominantly in the relationship between Batman and Joker. We might have seen the best live-action Joker in Nolan’s The Dark Knight, but the relationship between Batman and Joker in The Lego Batman Movie is the best we’ve seen in a long time.

Not only is Batman and Joker’ s dynamic relationship perfectly portrayed in the film, but the movie is also full of laughs and spectacular moments. I never thought a Lego movie could be considered a masterpiece, but The Lego Batman Movie truly deserves such praise. It’s beautifully-crafted, utterly hilarious, emotionally captivating and full of action.
