The Flash’s Wally West will indeed join DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, but not for long.
Legends of Tomorrow lost two valuable members last year. Fortunately, the time-traveling team of superheroes already have another recruit on the way to help them in their adventures. Earlier in January, The CW’s President, Mark Pedowitz revealed that The Flash’s Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale) would be the Legends’ newest member.
Ever since the announcement, fans have been excitedly speculating on what Kid Flash will bring to Legends of Tomorrow. Unfortunately, as we just learned, it looks like the character won’t be a part of the series for long.
Brandon Routh gave an interview to Comicbook.com during Warner Bros.’s recent DC in DC event. The actor was asked whether Wally West would mesh well with the other Legends. Routh stated that the character would indeed fit in nicely, but also confirmed that his role in the series will be short:
“Yeah. You know, I think that goes with the talent that Keiynan brings to his role and to this newly-forming […] energy of him coming in to be a part of our show for a little bit.”
The actor elaborated on his answer, commending the show’s writers for the way in which they’ve handled the team dynamic so far:
“I feel like, for the most part, our writers are writing for us as a team and our characters and putting team first, and everything else, if we can make poignant stories about cultural differences or religious differences, then we do. If not, then we’re all working together on the team to solve history, which is… I feel like a place that we can all get to in the world, where we all understand that we all have differences but we can also just talk person to person, human to human.”
It’s admittedly a bit disappointing to know that Kid Flash won’t be joining the Legends as a full-time member. However, we have to keep in mind that things could change down the line. If Wally proves to be a successful addition to the show, The CW could reasonably give him a more prominent role in Legends of Tomorrow.
Legends of Tomorrow will return on Monday, Feb. 12 in a new timeslot. How will Wally fit into the Legends?
