4. Using Flashpoint as a storyline
According to reports, Daley and Goldstein will be directing based off a script written by Joby Harold. Harold’s previous screenwriting credit includes King Arthur: Legend of the Sword so he is no stranger to writing action films. Reports still indicate the film will be based on the 2011 Flashpoint comic series written by Geoff Johns. Johns is listed as a co-chair of DC Films and an executive producer of all DCEU films. It is highly likely he will be heavily involved with the Flashpoint film adaptation.
For Daley and Goldstein, this story could prove difficult as a way of showcasing the Flash on his own. There are countless characters playing intricate roles in the comic series. A few have already been featured in the DCEU including Batman and his father Thomas Wayne, Wonder Woman, and Cyborg. Reverse Flash is also a major part of the story, meaning that Barry Allen’s arch-nemesis would be introduced to the DCEU. We saw the Flash struggle at times against Parademons in Justice League. The challenge will be getting audiences to believe Barry has progressed enough to face off against Reverse Flash.
The directors will also have to figure out a way to keep the Flash as the focal point even when surrounded by fan favorites like Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman. It still has to feel like a Flash movie and not an alternate universe Justice League.
