Teen Titans Go! To the Movies announced new cast members for the upcoming summer film, including Lil Yachty as the Green Lantern.
It has been almost six months since the announcement that the parody series of Teen Titans called Teen Titans Go! will have an animated feature-length film based on the show be released. Since then, casting announcements have been made. Will Arnett and Kristen Bell have joined the cast. Though, recently, there have been a couple of casting calls answered of note that were interesting. One of which being rapper, Lil Yachty and seasoned, award-winning, film star Nicholas Cage, of whom are both set to play the John Stewart Green Lantern and Superman respectively.
Comic Book Resources (CBR) covered that mumble rapper, Lil Yachty, is one of two musicians to be cast as DC characters. The second of which is electro-pop singer-songwriter, Halsey, who will play Wonder Woman in the film.
Say what you will of the cartoon series, Teen Titans Go!, which aired April 23, 2013 on Cartoon Network as part of the DC Nation block and is currently airing its fourth season. This itself is a more comedic spin-off of the previous series, Teen Titans, back in the early to late 00s.
Lil Yachty, for those who may not know is an Atlanta, Georgia native rapper known for his single “One Night” and “iSpy”. He released his 2017 debut album Teenage Emotions and this current project will be his first venture into film.
In the case of Cage, other than Ryan Reynolds, he is a comic book fanboy at heart and is definitely a fan of Superman. Come on, even his son is named after the alien birth name of Clark Kent. Cage, back in the late 90s, was close to landing the role of Superman in the film, Superman Lives, to be directed by Tim Burton but got canceled due to budgetary concerns, several rewrites and the director having departed the project.
Now, Cage has got his wish, somewhat, lending his voice to the Man of Steel himself.
Below is the synopsis for Teen Titans Go! To the Movies:
“It seems to the Teens that all major superheroes out there are star in their own movies–everyone but the Teen Titans, that is. But de facto leader Robin is determined to remedy the situation and be seen as a star instead of a sidekick. If only they could get the hottest Hollywood film director to notice them. With a few madcap ideas and a song in their heart, Teen Titans head to Tinsel Town, certain to pull off their dream. But when the group is radically misdirected by a serious super villain and his maniacal plan to take over the Earth, things really go awry. The team finds their and their fighting spirit failing, putting the very fate of the Teen Titans themselves on the line.”
Teen Titans Go! to the Movies stars the voices of Scott Menville, Khary Payton, Hynden Walch, Greg Cipes, Tara Strong, Kristen Bell and Will Arnett.
