18. Ant-Man – Subatomic Journey

Scott Lang’s journey from perpetual criminal to a redeemed hero in Ant-Man is a feel-good story. Paul Rudd is a charismatic screw up turned hero, and he is rounded out with the likes of Michael Douglas and Evangeline Lily which doesn’t hurt.

The character of Scott is clearly in over his head when he is thrown into a world of ants and shrinking. Hank Pym is sure to warn him to avoid triggering a shrinking sequence that is likely to get him lost forever in a Subatomic nightmare existence. Unfortunately, that’s where Scott finds himself toward the end of the movie.

After ignoring Pym’s warning in order to put a stop to the villainous Yellowjacket, Scott is plunged into the Subatomic. It is an oblivion, one that is nearly impossible to navigate and it seems that Scott is doomed. Thanks to some clever tinkering with the shrinking technology, Scott manages to find a way home. This may not be the last we see of the Subatomic Universe. It has great for potential in further Ant-Man stories, but also as a setting in a broader MCU feature. It would be one awful place to drop Thanos or one of the Black Order.
