Captain Marvel to become the new lead in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Marvel Studios has officially revealed that they are setting up Captain Marvel to be the new face of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The post-credits scene featured after Avengers: Infinity War teased the arrival of Captain Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In March 2019, fans will finally be introduced to the newest hero in Captain Marvel, which will tell the origin story of Carol Danvers set in the 1990’s. Less than two months after that, we will get to see her alongside the rest of the Avengers in the untitled sequel to Infinity War – and the cinematic universe will never be the same.

A fresh and new lineup of heroes will take the spotlight as the evergrowing MCU begins to introduce bigger and wilder stories. Not only will Avengers 4 be the last time we see most of the original Avengers, but the entire Marvel universe will be drastically different. In fact, it will even revolve around different characters as well.

During Marvel Studios’ film presentation at CineEurope Wednesday, Kevin Feige presented a Captain Marvel featurette to some lucky fans as well as the press. He also teased how big of a role Captain Marvel will have in the MCU starting with Phase 4, stating “Captain Marvel is about to take the lead in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe.” You can check out the original tweet below:

This shouldn’t be too big of a surprise as both Iron Man and Captain America – who are currently the two biggest leads in the MCU – are most likely departing after Avengers 4. There are many other popular characters that could fit this role, such as Spider-Man, Black Panther or even Doctor Strange. However, Marvel has been teasing the fact that Carol Danvers will be the most powerful superhero in the entire universe (or at least that we’ve seen). Plus, it would be nice to see some change with a superheroine taking charge.

Avengers: Infinity War is in theaters now. It will be followed by Ant-Man and the Wasp on July 6, 2018, Captain Marvel on March 8, 2019, the fourth Avengers movie on May 3, 2019, the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming on July 5, 2019, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Spider-Man 2 in 2020.
