Iron Fist: Five must-haves for season two to succeed
By Mark Lynch
1. Give us a reason to care
Lastly, season one of Iron Fist didn’t give people a reason to say positive things because there was nothing to get excited about. Of course, fans and critics can be harsh, but, in this case, they were right. Most of the characters fell flat, the story was all over the place, and the villains were sub-par at best.
The last part may have been the biggest negative. Shows and movies have to have a villain that the audience can relate to or be so despicable that we want to see them lose. The heroes have to also have a backstory that makes us root for them. We had no reason to root for Danny Rand. The story about his parents dying wasn’t enough. It also didn’t help that they repeatedly showed the incident on the plane.
The sad part is that all of the characters in this show are interesting in the comic books. This is an instance where following the source material could benefit the characters more than it hurts. And at this point, Iron Fist can’t afford to avoid any avenues to make the show a success.
