How Black Lightning can avoid the season 2 slump
By Mark Lynch
Keep it fun
Keep the series fun and lighthearted. Black Lightning dealt with a lot of heavy topics, but it also managed to keep a lot of humor in the show. Jefferson made all sorts of random silly jokes like having x-ray vision talking to his wife. There’s also the family dynamic that always made me smile. The Pierce family always seemed to have family dinners every week regardless of what was going. Even when Jefferson and his wife Lynn weren’t together.
Black Lightning has to balance the heavy and sad with a good amount of positivity and hope. Without it, this season is going to be a downer. While it may have a lot of realism with things being dark or depressing on the show, seeing things getting better will make the audience jovial and encourage them to keep watching for the happy ending. Especially during the cliffhangers at the end of the show.
Black Lighting has a chance to be a really special show. Especially since they’re remaining separate from the Arrow-verse for the time being. Black Lightning is a great character who values his family and his community. His positive attitude and need to do the right thing is exactly what’s been missing from television. I expect nothing but greatness in this upcoming season and look forward to covering the show once again.
