Marvel Cinematic Universe: Ranking Phase 1 Blu-rays and DVDs
3. Iron Man 2
DVD Sales $122,727,783/6.6 million units
Blu-ray Sales $55,131,689/2.5 million units
Total Sales $177,859,472 /9.1 million units
Only the third film in Phase 1 of the MCU, happens to be the third best selling film as well. Fancy that! The first Iron Man was such a success, it came as no surprise that there would be a sequel. Although a strange set-up for Phase 1, given everyone else has to wait until after The Avengers for their own sequel. Save for Hulk that is, sorry buddy, nothing personal.
Iron Man 2 debuted with over $90 million in sales and over three million units sold. It does not sell nearly as many DVD as its predecessor in its first week. Yet, it made up for this given the market is finally, but slowly adopting Blu-ray at this point in time in 2010. On the number one spot for both for only a week, however its drop is hardly as tough as the others. Instead, it drops merely one spot for its first few weeks. Total, it may not outsell the original, with a 20 percent drop total. Still, these numbers are strong, plus it did do a hell a lot more in Blu-ray sales.
Iron Man 2 was the eighth best-selling DVD and the fifth best selling Blu-ray for 2010. Sure, it’s hardly talked about now, but it did make it to the All-Time Best Selling Blu-ray list.
