3. Wally was his grandson, not his son

In season two of CW’s The Flash, Joe West discovers that he has a previously unknown son named Wally. Wally’s existence had been keep secret from Joe.

In the comics, Ira was quite aware of Wally, but he wasn’t his son. Don’t worry, Wally isn’t another refugee child from the future. He is a biological member of the West family. Wally West is the child of Ira’s son Rudolph. The comics version of Wally West is the nephew of Iris and grandson of Professor West. Wally loved to visit his Aunt Iris, who he considered his best friend.
If you think Barry’s comment about Ira not recognizing Wally is far-fetched, then you haven’t been paying attention.

Wally later struggled with his relationship with Ira. Despite living in close proximity, Wally didn’t see his grandfather much. This was partially due to Wally avoiding his feelings about Iris’s death (she wasn’t dead, but that’s a long story). Wally later confronted his feelings and reconnected with Ira during the Flash storyline Born To Run.
