What Marvel Cinematic Universe characters could really be Skrulls in disguise?
Photos from the Captain Marvel movie revealed that we will in fact see the alien shape-shifters known as the Skrulls. They’re patient, brutal, and also believe they have god on their side. All of this makes them a very determined species. Of all the aliens in the Marvel Universe, they’ve come the closest to taking over the planet. This happened during a time where they infiltrated almost every group on Earth and looked to make them a part of the Skrull Empire.
It ended up in a series called Secret Invasion. Characters like Melinda May of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or Claire Temple from the Netflix series are choices that the Skrulls could use to gain access to different parts of the superpower community. Here are the top five choices for the Skrulls to replace.
Sharon Carter
Sharon Carter is an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., skilled fighter, and has a close connection to the most trusted member of the Avengers; Steve Rogers. Sharon Carter hasn’t been around in a while, but that doesn’t mean that Steve doesn’t still have feelings for her that she could exploit. Her living next door to Rogers could have been a plan by the Skrulls.
Carter had access to his home and could have been reporting back to the Skrulls on everything from the kind of food he likes to his fighting styles. Even that kiss in Captain America: Civil War could have been a way to take Cap’s DNA.
Carter is a sleeper choice. She could have also infiltrated Hydra while she was working for S.H.I.E.L.D. The biggest thing the Skrulls look for are people who have connections in more than a few places. It would make sense that she would have been taken or created just for the Skrulls to use against the humans.
Clint Barton (Hawkeye) and Laura Barton
Of all the Avengers to switch out, Clint Barton would be the easiest. He doesn’t have a power that would be difficult to imitate. Clint’s abilities involve precision, skill, and a lot of math. Something that the Skrull Warriors all have. Also, since the Avengers don’t know much about Clint it’ll be easy for a Skrull to impersonate him.
Since Clint is so reserved and secret it won’t take much for the Skrulls to fake his background. The only people they’d have to avoid is Nick Fury (since he knows everything) and Black Widow who’s actually his friends. Unless she’s also a Skrull.
Who knows? Maybe Clint’s wife is a Skrull. One of the things the Skrulls did was infiltrate even the smallest groups to get information and gain trust. A Skrull who’s married to Clint could easily find a way to gain access to S.H.I.E.L.D. information if Clint talked about secret missions with his wife. Grabbing Clint or his wife would be an intelligent move on their part. They would be the ones to bet on.
Janet Van Dyne
Since the Captain Marvel movie is set in the 1980’s it wouldn’t have been difficult for the Skrulls to grab Janet Van Dyne before her last mission. It’s very mysterious that she remained unharmed from the other universe and then returned with new powers. Being in the Quantum Realm for an extended period of time wouldn’t be a big deal to a Skrull warrior. They’re a patient group of people who always put their empire before their own needs and wants. In fact, they would probably consider it an honor.
Janet Van Dyne may have just popped on the radar, but that doesn’t mean she’s not important. She was the wife to one of the smartest people on the planet and Janet was also a genius herself. The secret of shrinking and growing is an asset the Skrulls would value more than people may think. If Janet becomes an Avenger she raises her value even more. The experiment at the end of Ant-Man and The Wasp could have just been something she was working on for the Skrulls.
Wong
It may seem like a stretch due to Wong’s power and skills, but allow me to explain. The Skrulls aren’t against outnumbering their opponents to win a fight. No matter how great Wong is, numbers can come into play. Plus, with all of the confusion going on during Avengers: Infinity War, it might have been easy for Wong to put his guard down if a Skrull came in looking like Dr. Strange. When Dr. Strange gets back to Earth, Wong might not be the person he thinks he is.
Wong is a great choice because of all the secrets that the mystic arts contain. Beyond the Eye of Agamotto (the Time Stone), there are all sorts of mystical trinkets, weapons, and potions that the Skrulls would love to reverse engineer and figure out. Plus, knowing the magic element would help them stay hidden from anyone who practices the mystic arts. Magic is the biggest key to the Skrull invasion. If they find a way to defend against magic, they could be unstoppable. Wong would be their strongest capture.
Thaddeus Ross
The one thing people forget is that it wasn’t just the superpower community that was infiltrated during Secret Invasion. The governments of the world also had a Skrull infestation. Who knows how far up the totem pole they got. A guy who could be a Skrull right in front of our faces is the man who tried to kill the Hulk all while putting innocent lives in danger and was also happy when the Superhero Registration Act was put in place. General Thaddeus Ross.
General Ross was found by Tony Stark during the end credits of The Incredible Hulk. While it may have looked like he was drinking because he failed his mission to contain the Hulk, it also could have been due to his imminent death. The Skrulls don’t take failure lightly. Even if it did come at the hands of the Hulk.
Also, with the Superhero Registration Act in place, the Avengers would be fractured. This would make it prime time for the Skrulls to come in. Without the Avengers around to contest them, Earth would be theirs for the taking.
