Comic book movies: The top 20 hero performances
By Mark Lynch
14. Chris Pratt as Star Lord
When Chris Pratt first started his acting career, he wasn’t always looked at like an actor that could lead a movie, let alone a sex symbol and an action star. His portrayal of Star Lord in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise (and then in Avengers: Infinity War) got rid of those opinions. Pratt was his goofy self for most of the movie, but when it was time to get dramatic, he knocked it out of the park. His reactions to Gamora floating in space, dying and Ego admitting he gave his mother cancer are perfect examples of his great dramatic moments. Pratt’s career skyrocketed after playing Star Lord.
13. Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach
There were a plethora of great performances in Watchmen, but none like Rorschach. It was more than just the gritty voice and the erratic behavior (even if it was only that it was done well). Rorschach was a perfect example of humanity when you get pushed too far. He tried to be the hero that everyone looked up to and ended up becoming a killer. When he felt his leniency on criminals was responsible for letting a little girl die, he lost it. In the end, he knew that he was going to die and put on a great final moment. This role was supposed to propel Haley to greater things. It’s too bad his next movie was the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street. Thankfully, he will always have this role.
