There’s plenty of intrigue around the Dark Avengers, especially if a script comes to fruition.
Rumors have circulated that a Dark Avengers script has been commissioned for a movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Who are the Dark Avengers? Well, they’re a result of what happens when you put Norman Osborn in charge of the world’s security. He took his Thunderbolts and made them Avengers.
Bullseye became Hawkeye, Moonstone became Ms. Marvel, Venom (Mac Gargan) became Spider-Man, Daken became Wolverine, and Norman Osborn took one of Tony Stark’s Iron Man armors and became the Iron Patriot. They were also joined by the real Greek God of War Ares and the lunatic and endlessly powerful Sentry. If this script gets written and the Dark Avengers are used, this is going to be brilliant.
First, this is a great continuation to a Secret Invasion storyline since Norman Osborn got the shot that killed the Skrull Queen. Since the world saw Norman save the world, they entrusted him with their lives. This could work like the comics and lead directly into a Dark Avengers series. Allow me to explain what makes this Avengers roster so good and why this team would work on screen.
Hardcore team for a hardcore time
Let’s be honest, things in the world are messed up. If this was a world full of people with superpowers, then we’d end up with a much more dangerous world. Unfortunately, not everyone is intimidated by the Avengers. The villains know that there are rules that the Avengers have to follow so they aren’t easily intimidated anymore. The Dark Avengers are the perfect group to usher in a different kind of MCU team.
Some people believe the Avengers are too soft. The Avengers aren’t thrilled with having to go to a place within themselves where they have to kill. The Dark Avengers love it. Venom enjoys eating people, Daken possibly gets off on having blood on his hands and claws, and Ares is the God of War and knows that some people have to be killed.
With Sentry doing whatever Norman Osborn tells him, it scares the poop out of people and keeps them in check. Also, these aren’t the fun Avengers we’re used to seeing. A change in between regimes isn’t a bad idea. This will break up the Disney fun team and bring in something darker. Pun intended.

They Made Bullseye an Avenger
Some people should never be Avengers. For example, Cyclops because he doesn’t like the Avengers for never helping mutants, Punisher because their entire roster (except Wolverine and maybe Thor) hates him, and then there’s Bullseye. There isn’t any reason on the planet why that psychopath should be one of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. He’s a villain who revels in murder and doesn’t even spend the money he gets to kill people.
Well, Norman Osborn made him an Avenger and dressed him up as Hawkeye. Here’s the best part, he made a better Hawkeye than Clint Barton.
Clint is great, but Bullseye is actually the best marksman in the Marvel Universe. Maybe in all of comics. Bullseye didn’t need trick arrows to take down his targets when he was an Avenger. He even got the drop on a powerful sorceress like Morgan le Fay.
Bullseye may not have been ideal, but he added a much-needed edge to the already hardcore roster. Plus, his teammates hated him, but they knew they needed him. Every team in a movie needs the character that can break the seriousness. Bullseye is that guy. He’s cynical, damn funny, and seeing him argue with Norman about random things would be priceless.

Putting the ‘fun’ in dysfunctional
Having too many personalities can be a good thing if you have a good leader. A good leader knows how to put people in places to succeed. They also don’t do things to selfishly fill a void. Too bad Norman Osborn isn’t anything close to being a good leader. If he was, he wouldn’t have enlisted Daken to annoy Wolverine and Venom to satiate his obsession with Spider-Man. Now you have all of these self-absorbed people in one place with no concern other than self-preservation. This makes for one heck of a fun team.
If you’re like me, you probably can’t stand reality TV. Although, you may understand why people enjoy it. Most of them are a train wreck. You know it’s a mess you shouldn’t enjoy, but enjoy it nonetheless. It’s so bad that they literally fight each other on a regular basis. Heck, Bullseye and Daken have actually tried to kill each other on more than a few occasions.
Sentry has flipped a couple of times and almost destroyed the world. Moonstone chased off one of their members after a few days. Then there’s the relationship between Bullseye and Moonstone. Moonstone hated Bullseye when they were on the Thunderbolts, but this new Bullseye she finds sexy. There’s sex, violence, and in team fighting. The Dark Avengers were Marvel’s Jersey Shore except the Dark Avengers are talented.

Introducing new characters
The next phase in the MCU is going to need some new heroes and villains. This roster is full of that. Since Spider-Man is part of the MCU, that means Norman Osborn is available. While he’s known for being the Green Goblin, Norman as a person is more dangerous and a better villain the Goblin. Karla Sofen (Moonstone) is a powerhouse with a ton of potential; a person who’s easy to dislike and the perfect villain for Captain Marvel.
Ares is a brute who is the perfect combination of skill and strength. Someone who could have a memorable fight with the Hulk. Then there’s the Sentry. A guy who’s power set doesn’t seem to have a limit. He could be both a hero and a villain.
Even if this isn’t a movie starring the Dark Avengers, they make a formidable team for the good Avengers to fight. The Avengers haven’t fought a super-powered team that can really test them. This could be the first time the Avengers go up against a force like this and lose collectively. It won’t be like Thanos and Ultron who both had an army. This could be an old-fashioned butt whooping. Who knows, maybe we could get the Dark Avengers VS the X-Men!
