Marvel Studios had no involvement with Sony’s Venom

Sony’s Venom is in theater now. It has been confirmed by the director that Marvel Studios had no involvement with the movie.

Venom is the first movie in Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters, which just received its name this year. Sony has big plans for several of the characters that they have the rights to already. We’ll see Morbius, Silver Sable, Black Cat, Silk and Kraven the Hunter on the big screen at some point.

So far, Morbius will start filming next year, but beyond that, Sony hasn’t announced any grand timeline like we’ve seen Marvel do in the past (and DC to some extent). At the moment, future plans all around the Marvel front seem to be pretty vague. Beyond Spider-Man: Far From Home and Morbius, we don’t have a clear picture of what to expect just yet from Marvel and Sony separately.

That brings us to the fact that Marvel Studios had nothing to do with Venom, according to what Ruben Fleischer told Metro. If there was a Sony property that Marvel was going to get involved with, it likely would have been that one. However, it’s hard to see Sony having a whole universe that doesn’t tie in to Spider-Man at all.

I’m not saying that Marvel even needs to get involved, but Sony could still make use of Peter Parker once Marvel is done with him (this is all contract dependent, most likely). They also have the option of bringing Miles Morales to the live-action movies, too, which is something a lot of fans would love judging by how excited people are for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Next: Sony's Venom could have had a different opening scene

Sony has a lot of options and with or without help from Marvel Studios, it’ll be interesting to see what they accomplish. As always, we’ll be keeping a close eye on the news surrounding these movies.
