Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse set to feature two Peter Parkers

According to information gained from past trailers and footage shown at New York Comic Con, we now know that there will be two Peter Parkers featured in Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse. Who are they?

While Miles Morales is the web-slinger given the main spotlight in Sony’s upcoming Into the Spiderverse, it’s well known that he will be joined by other Spiders as well. One of these is the original (and my favorite) Spider-Man, Peter Parker.

The last few trailers have made it seem like he is just the normal wall crawler that everyone knows from another universe, tutoring Miles, fighting villains like Green Goblin and Prowler, and even living some of Tobey Maguire’s moments.

But, based on the first 35 minutes of footage that was recently shown at New York Comic Con, we now know that there isn’t just one Peter in this flick. Instead, there  are two! (Warning: Some spoilers for Into the Spider-Verse follow.)

Ultimate Parker number one

The Peter Parker that actually appears first is actually the one from Miles’ dimension. This Spider-Man is 26, young, courageous and an experienced hero who fights crime and with a sense of humor. The movie opens with him narrating his life, including having his own comic book, a moment shown to belong to the older Spider-Man in the latest trailer. He has a toned body with dark blonde hair, and he is married to Mary Jane.

Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) in Sony Pictures Animation’s SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE.

So, why isn’t he Miles’ tutor and partner throughout the whole movie? Well, as sad as it sounds, he dies within the first 35 minutes of the movie. He saves Miles from the Prowler and Green Goblin, and that’s where the “you’re like me” moment from the trailer comes in. He then leaves Miles to fight the Kingpin, who activates the device that will bring the other Parker in later.

But, it also severely injures Peter through an explosion. Kingpin then unmasks and kills Spider-Man, crushing his body. But, what Kingpin doesn’t know is that another Peter Parker is here now. And this one, is here to stay (at least until he can go back home).

Amazing? Parker number two

The second Peter Parker narrates his own life as he comes into Miles’ world. He lived through everything that the Ultimate Parker did, but he has been Spider-Man for much longer, as he is 44-years-old. He married MJ too, but they eventually divorced, and Aunt May died. His sad life ended him up in a small apartment constantly eating pizza.

He is a brunette with a beer belly, a bad back, and a little bit of a beard. He first meets Miles while he is visiting his Peter Parker’s graveyard. This is the Spidey voiced by Jake Johnson, and it is the one seen in all of the unmasked scenes of the trailers. Let’s hope that the events of the movie change him a bit.

I’m really excited to see how Into the Spider-Verse handles two Peter Parker’s, and how the second one will end up at the end of the film. I can’t wait to see the first one in action too. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse hits theaters this December.
