Film: Avengers: Endgame

The rules of time travel are ever-changing and, as we’ve seen through the myriad of time travel-centric films over the years, nothing is certain when it comes to the space-time continuum. That said, there is one definitive rule that seems to recur throughout them – the time-traveler must never interact with their past and/or future self. Unfortunately for Cap, that was a lot easier said than done in Avengers: Endgame.

Returning to the past to secure both the Tesseract and the Mind Stone, the Avengers got a brand new perspective on their 2012 Manhattan battle with Loki and Chituari as they watched their old selves hand the former Big Bad over to S.H.I.E.L.D. Once again donning his Phil Coulson-designed uniform from The Avengers, Cap successfully procured Loki’s Scepter from the turncoat agents and almost made it out of there unnoticed. That is, until he came face-to-face with the one person he couldn’t fool: Himself.

While this may have been an unfortunate turn of events for Steve, it certainly wasn’t for us as the two Captain Americas, past and present, squared off on the interior bridge of Stark Tower in a classic battle. Evenly matched, they went toe-to-toe, with the past Cap thinking that his opponent was actually Loki (who has absconded with the Tesseract) in disguise and the present one attempting to outwit himself.

One brutal brawl later and old Cap was shocked to discover that the so-called impostor had the same picture of Peggy Carter – an ample opportunity for present Cap to use Loki’s Scepter to put him to sleep.

Captain America fighting his way through any foe is always a sight to behold, but two Captain Americas battling each other was just too darn good for words, and a treat befitting the epic conclusion to this phase of The Avengers saga.
