Captain America: Civil War really went all out in a bid to give the MCU fans the universe’s best battle yet and well, they succeeded… twice.
The first came about due to a dispute among The Avengers over the Sokovia Accords, when the United Nations ordered the team to sign it (effectively making them a government task force) or retire from superheroics altogether.
While Iron Man, broken with guilt over the collateral damage their battles had caused, believed they should sign the document, Captain America disagreed – believing that the Avengers could end up just like another S.H.I.E.L.D. or Hydra. So, when Bucky Barnes was framed for murdering the King of Wakanda, that divide in the team imploded.
Cap sought to rescue his buddy and prove to the world that the Sokovian doctor had framed him while Iron Man was tasked with arresting them both. With that, each one recruited members of the Avengers who supported their ideals, along with some new heroes too.
Iron Man led his team of War Machine, Vision, Black Widow and new recruits Spider-Man and Black Panther (who wanted to kill Bucky for the attack on his father) while Cap led Bucky, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Falcon and the newly-recruited Ant-Man. Seeing The Avengers standing across from each other, divided by a line in the ground was a sight for the ages, and the battle that followed was nothing short of epic.
From Cap’s vicious showdown with Black Panther, to his vocal admiration of Spider-Man, the battle once again highlighted Steve’s respect for all of his fellow heroes and further reinforced that he was only fighting against them because he truly believed that what he was doing was right – which it undoubtedly was.
