Batman and the Turtles face a crisis in Batman/TMNT III No. 1

Just What Delightful Madness Is Ahead?
Subsequent issues will likely reveal more “combinations” of characters from both universes. Casey Jones makes a cameo as the only honest cop on Gordon’s beat. It will remain to be seen if other characters turn up, such as a “merger” of April O’Neil and Barbara Gordon? Or maybe Agent Bishop and Two-Face? The possibilities are endless! Despite this, the themes of family are strong throughout this issue. Not only with the vigilantes themselves, but Bruce’s bond with Robin being what has clued him into this crisis. Despite the changes to the universe, he knows his son is gone.

After a sequel series which risked reaching the limit of these crossovers, this debut issue showcases that this third installment is in rebound. Rather than try to repeat and enhance the first go-around, as Batman/TMNT II arguably did, this one has put the shells to the wall! The imagination and creativity involves shows in both the details and in the incredible art. It would be worth a read just for the visuals alone, yet Tynion IV seems eager to capture the heart of both franchises amid his most bombastic plot yet! It’s a brilliant addition to this year’s 35th anniversary of the Ninja Turtles, along with the 80th anniversary of Batman. It’s also a great way to celebrate both, and bring the fans of both franchises together for one adventure of epic proportions!
