5. Gamora

Movie it happened in: Avengers: Infinity War

Why it was so heartbreaking: We knew that Avengers: Infinity War was going to be hard to watch. There were deaths coming and we knew that we would be devastated by the majority of them. However, what we didn’t realize was that some of those deaths would be far more permanent than others.

Gamora was one of those permanent ones. During the movie, Thanos took Gamora and went in search for the Soul Stone. It was a case of a soul for the Soul Stone, but it would be someone the person in search for the stone loved the most. We’d hoped that there was nobody Thanos loved more than himself, but it was soon clear that wasn’t the case.

The flashbacks of Gamora as a child should have been the dead giveaway. We saw her as a child through his eyes, and that meant she must have had a place in his heart. If only she realized that she was key to getting one of the Infinity Stones.

We watched as Gamora realized that Thanos truly loved her, leaving us with mixed opinions. It’s hard to hate someone who actually loves someone deeply enough. However, the balancing of the worlds meant far more to him and he was willing to throw her over the cliff to get what he’d come for.

To make this even more devastating, there was no coming back from this. We wouldn’t get her back. Even in Avengers: Endgame, we couldn’t get our Gamora back.
