1. Nick Fury Isn’t Nick Fury
Remember the crazy theory about the Chameleon being in the film? Yeah, well, here’s where it gets even more interesting.
When Nick Fury popped up in the Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer, fans rejoiced at the thought of spending more time with the founding father of The Avengers. Even though he has made his presence felt in the MCU from time-to-time (and was integral in Captain Marvel), this will be the first time since 2013’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier that the modern-day version of him will play a truly significant role.
That being said, once the initial excitement passed, some fans were left wondering as to why he even showed up in the first place. After all, he’s never interacted with Peter Parker on a one-to-one basis before and the days of S.H.I.E.L.D. are long over, so why on earth would this revered thought-to-be-dead agent need to recruit a “friendly neighborhood Spider-Man” for a multiverse-level catastrophe. It just doesn’t add up, right?
One theory that has been spreading like wildfire is that the person who recruits Peter isn’t actually Fury at all. Yes, like most theories on this list, it sounds ridiculous, but when you actually stop to listen, there may be some truth in it.
According to this theory, which has since been brought up by many fans all over social media, the Fury we see in the trailer is actually The Chameleon. That would explain why the former head of S.H.I.E.L.D. is so convinced that Mysterio has good intentions, as it could all simply be a ploy to lure Peter into their scheme and convince him to do whatever it is they need him to.
At this point, it seems highly likely that the tenured Spider-Man villain will camouflage his way onto the big screen in some fashion or another, but the question remains: Is he simply wearing Nick Fury’s face to manipulate Spider-Man? And if so, what does he and/or Mysterio want him to do?
Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters on July 2, 2019. Are you excited to see it? Do you believe any of the above fan theories? Let us know in the comments below!
