After an underwhelming season 1, season 2 was going to have to make some changes. Mike Colter wasn’t the problem nor was Simone Missick as Misty Knight. What the show needed was something other than the two of them bearing the load. With Luke Cage getting a power upgrade, he was going to need a better and tougher villain. Enter Bushmaster — a guy who was a better fighter and had the power to put a hurting on Cage.
Lately, relatable villains have been a trend, and Bushmaster followed that. He didn’t want to fight Cage, but he had to. He knew he was going to stand in the way of getting his revenge on Mariah Stokes for destroying everything he held dear. Especially after the hit she put out on the restaurant. This season was a vast improvement on the first. The only negative thing about this season was how it ended.
Luke Cage ends up becoming the “Sheriff of Harlem.” He turned into everything that he hated. Cage tells Jessica in season three of her show that he knows that she’s there to stop him if he goes too far, pretty much telling us that they were on a collision course. Even though this isn’t the Marvel comic book universe, this ending was completely out of Cage’s character. Thankfully, it never turned into a story arc. At least we got to see Power Man and Iron Fist one good time before season 2 ended.
