Black Lightning: 6 things we need to see from season 3
By Mark Lynch
5. Agent Percy Odell
From the first moment we saw Agent Odell, we knew that he was going to be someone important. The way he moved around the facilities, talked to his subordinates, and interacted with Lynn Jefferson was different. He wasn’t just some antagonist. Whatever he had going on was going to be crucial to the story.
In the end, we found out why: He was preparing for an upcoming war. Agent Odell’s methods may have been a bit cruel, but sometimes you need a character like that – someone like Nick Fury who doesn’t mind being despised because he’s getting the job done.
The upcoming war with Markovia is going to mean a lot of action. While Black Lightning, Thunder, and Lightning may all be capable fighters, this is different. People are going to die and all of the Pierces will be forced to make some decisions that won’t sit well with them. Agent Odell has to be the one giving the order. He also has to be the one who talks to everyone and explains that what happened had to be done.
It might even be a good idea to delve into his backstory to find out how he got to where he is. Adding this context will either make viewers relate to him or hate him. It’s a win either way. Look for him and Gambi to butt heads on a few things. What’s funny is that they’re probably more alike than they realize.
