4. Who the Hell is Bucky?
Movie: Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
There was a mysterious assassin terrorizing the world for decades. Recently, he was responsible for the death of Nick Fury. Fast forward to the middle of the movie, the Winter Soldier and Steve Rogers had their one-on-one fight. Before it could conclude, Rogers flipped Winter Soldier and ripped his mask off. It was revealed that it was Bucky Barnes. Captain America’s best friend who everyone thought to have died during World War 2.
Why it ranks as one of the greatest fight scenes from this decade’s superhero movies
Two of the best hand-to-hand fighters in the MCU fought and it can be described in two words; intense and smooth. Intense because a brainwashed Bucky was doing his best to kill Steve Rogers. Steve tries not to kill Bucky, but he wasn’t holding back. If he did, he would have been killed. Each of them couldn’t get more than a couple of hits at a time before the other would counter. The attacks were smooth because of the way it flowed. It was one fluid motion after another. A perfect example was the way Bucky flipped and attacked with his knife and the way Rogers parried.
The reveal at the end helped elevate this fight. Comic book fans knew that Winter Soldier was Bucky. That didn’t make the un-masking any less exciting. Especially when he dropped the, “Who the hell is Bucky” line. A quote used in the comic book Captain America by Ed Brubaker.
