3. Could we get Cassandra Cain’s first steps towards Batgirl?

Birds of Prey gave us a small introduction to Cassandra Cain as a young girl living with a foster family in an unstable environment.

Harley Quinn is not the most stable person herself, but there is a structure that Cassandra can enjoy. The bond between Harley and Cassandra was the main focus of Birds of Prey, which ends with the two riding off together while enjoying breakfast sandwiches.

The next steps of their relationship will depend on The Batman. Where is Batman in his career? Has Robert Pattinson’s Batman already recruited a Robin and a Batgirl? And does that movie even take place in the DCEU continuity?

Cassandra Cain doesn’t need to be Batgirl right away in a Birds of Prey sequel, but what if her version of Batgirl is one that takes the best of Harley Quinn and Batman? She can learn from Harley — who was a PhD and has spent a fair amount of time in the criminal underworld — while also learning from Batman who has the more traditional structure of a hero’s story.

Again, a Birds of Prey sequel would ideally spend more time developing Cassandra Cain into more than just a snarky, foul-mouthed kid. It can be similar to the Birds of Prey story that Harley went on; only this time Cassandra can learn to stand on her own and perhaps have a hand in saving the day rather than being a bystander that’s protected by others.
