Moon Knight: Oliver Jackson-Cohen says playing the role ‘would be a dream’

Oliver Jackson-Cohen would love to play Marvel’s Moon Knight.
Moon Knight is coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Oliver Jackson-Cohen wants in. The actor — who has been a longtime, fan favorite for the part — revealed to ET that he knows his name has been linked to the character. And while he would love to take on the role, he first has to learn who Moon Knight is:
"“I have heard this, yes. I don’t understand what a Moon Knight is,” he added with a laugh. “Do you know what a Moon Knight is?”"
But the English actor’s unfamiliarity with Marc Spector hasn’t stopped him from campaigning for the role and enjoying the positive energy from the fans. He even jokingly implored fans to let Marvel know how they feel:
"“Every single time I open Instagram, it’s like, ‘MOON KNIGHT!’ And I’m like, ‘This is so great and thank you, but I don’t know what it is!’ No one’s called me. I would love to be a Marvel superhero. That would be a dream. Tell all of your viewers to go and stand outside Marvel headquarters!”"

Created by Doug Moench and Don Perlin, Moon Knight (or Marc Spector) first appeared in the pages of Werewolf by Night in 1975. Spector began as a Jewish-American archaeologist who was betrayed and left for dead during a dig in Egypt. The dying Spector would soon be given a second chance at life by the moon god, Khonshu, and become the entity’s crimefighting avatar — Moon Knight. Spector notably suffers from multiple personality disorder, having developed several identities during the course of his history.
Marvel Studios hasn’t revealed any details about Disney Plus’ Moon Knight since announcing it at the D23 Expo last summer. However, reports have confirmed that the studio has recruited The Exorcist‘s Jeremy Slater to develop and write the series. The Witcher alum Beau DeMayo also confirmed through social media that he had joined the writing staff.

In terms of casting the lead, Marvel is said to be looking for an actor of Jewish descent. Jackson-Cohen, whose father hails from an Egyptian Jewish family, would fit the bill. Still, he will likely be in competition with a number of other actors, including Daniel Radcliffe. Disney Plus has yet to announce a release date for Moon Knight.
