Thor Love and Thunder: 5 villains Christian Bale could play
2. Mangog
At first glance, it’s easy to see why Mangog isn’t a practical villain for Bale to play. However, a potential Mangog appearance wouldn’t exactly have to be ripped from the comics. Instead, this is a villain that can work without CGI and motion capture; the essence of Mangog’s character is all that’s needed.
Christian Bale’s Mangog would need to personify vengeance (though looking the part wouldn’t hurt – a being who thrives off fear and hatred. Imagine a being so entrenched in the idea that his use of hate gives credence to his deadly quest of vengeance. Bale would undoubtedly bring a Psycho-esque essence to the role, turning this not-so-well-known villain into one to remember.
In the pages of Marvel Comics, Mangog is the manifestation of Odin’s sins in the form of a horned giant troll. He seeks vengeance for those who fell by the hand of Odin and is the lone survivor of long-forgotten species imprisoned by Odin.
As a matter of fact, Mangog destroyed Odin and Thor in the comics. It’s Jane’s Thor who battles him a few times; finally defeating him after using magic chains and Mjölnir. With Natalie Portman’s Jane becoming a female Thor in the film, Mangog would certainly make sense as a villain. And with Valkyrie on her side, the pair would undoubtedly be able to take the big bad down.
