3. Is “Barchie” real?

Once upon a time, the idea of Archie Andrews and Betty Cooper being a couple wasn’t just an idea, it was a certainty. The characters share quite a bit of history together in the comics (and that’s putting it lightly) and Riverdale clearly started off with the intention of following suit.

Three years later, however, and that notion couldn’t seem further from existence as Archie is in a happy relationship with other comic book beau Veronica Lodge, and the phenomenon known as “Bughead” (the relationship between Betty and Jughead Jones) is stronger than ever. And yet, Riverdale seems intent on teasing fans with the notion of this Archie and Betty love triangle (though this time it would be a quadrangle).

More from TV

After giving fans a full season with no references to “Barchie”, Season 4 reintroduced it as a possibility when the lifelong best friends and neighbors faked a passionate romance after faking Jughead’s death in order to throw everyone off the scent. However, after spending some time together, it became clear that they were beginning to grow attracted to each other once more.

While it’s hard to deny the chemistry between them, it’s clear that they have already found their soulmates in Veronica and Jughead, so what’s the point in resurrecting the romance that never was four seasons in? Perhaps we’ll see in the coming episodes…
