These nine women would be more than capable of bringing the Skrull Queen Veranke to life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
It may be a while before Marvel Studios begins the production of another MCU movie. That doesn’t mean that the creators have stopped working. The writers in charge of scripts and story developments could be taking this time to build a new phase even better than the one that concluded in 2019. Those are bold words, but Marvel hasn’t given anyone a reason to doubt them yet.
One of the many things that people are looking forward to are the Skrulls’ involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Thankfully, it happened sooner than we expected. At the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, we saw that Nick Fury and Maria Hill were replaced by two Skrulls and that Fury was in space working with them.
We don’t know who else is a Skrull. All we know is that if there are two humans replaced, there is probably more. We also don’t know if they’ll be on our side in the future. That brings us to the next exciting prospect, Secret Invasion.
The idea behind Secret Invasion is that the Skrulls infiltrated every important part of the world. The idea was to make Earth a new planet in the Skrull Empire. This plan was led and created by the Skrull Queen Veranke. In the comics, she became Jessica Drew (Spider-Woman) to help lead the charge. While that’s an option, we’ve seen that things can change to fit the movie universe. The question is, who could play Veranke? Here are some of the actresses who would crush this role.

9. Charlize Theron
Hands down, one of the best actors in Hollywood and one of the few who can do anything, we’ve seen Charlize Theron outshine the best no matter what she’s in.
In this case, she can play evil and dominant better than anyone on this list. A couple of good examples of this are her role as the Ravenna in Snow White and the Huntsman and Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road. Both of these roles show two different sides needed to be Veranke. A kick-@$$ leader who can throw down with anyone. You can even look at her part in The Fate of the Furious. She was probably their best villain to date.
Yep, she would be perfect for this role.

8. Sanaa Lathan
Sanaa Lathan May not be someone that many people immediately gravitate towards when it comes to action movies. Nonetheless, she’s a very good actor.
Her most notable action movie is probably the first Alien Vs. Predator movie. This wasn’t a great action flick, but she shined bright. She also showed that she can play an action star as well. She can definitely deliver lines flawlessly – a quality needed for Veranke as she’d undoubtedly give speeches to motivate her Skrull warriors and citizens.
She would be more than capable of playing the Queen.

7. Sandra Oh
If you’ve never seen Grey’s Anatomy, it’s worth it for Sarah Oh alone. She played Dr. Cristina Yang -a doctor who didn’t take any mess from anyone. She was a determined character, capable of terrifying almost everyone on the show.
Oh won multiple awards for her performances on Grey’s Anatomy as well as Killing Eve and she more than deserved them. She put on performances that many actors wish they could have. And it’s quite easy to envision her becoming a dictator queen in the Skrull Empire.
She doesn’t have to yell. Just adopt the same kind of undisturbed, determination that she exhibited in Grey’s Anatomy. So when she does something intense or evil, it’ll add more to the scene because she’s so good at making us believe it.

6. Gina Torres
Gina Torres is flat out underrated. If you’ve seen her in Firefly or Suits, you’re undoubtedly aware that she can pull off being intimidating very well. When she speaks, she commands respect. If she gave an order in Firefly, she sounded like a leader. That’s the kind of person you need in charge.
When the eventual big fight happens with, Gina Torres’ Veranke would stand tall (literally absolutely figuratively). She’d believably motivate her troops during the final battle. For another image, picture her sitting on a throne while all of the Skrulls bow to her in admiration. That is one heck of an image.
5. Lucy Liu
Remember Lucy Liu from Kill Bill Volume 1? Picture her giving that same kind of speech she gave after she cut that guy’s head off. That’s why she makes this list.
Lucy Liu commands respect. In Ally McBeal, she played a very mean and sometimes ruthless woman. In Kill Bill, she played a powerful leader who didn’t stand for any intolerance.
Her power would come from her evolution from calm to angry warlord in a matter of seconds. It would be cool to see MCU find a way to pay homage to the scene where she decapitated a guy. Maybe with an alien axe instead of a sword? After all, Thor did it to Thanos.

4. Lena Headey
She’s already been a queen that viewers both loved and hated at once. Why not do it again? Lena Headey wasn’t just a terrifying and unforgiving leader in Game of Thrones, she was also a crime lord in the 2012’s Dredd – someone that even the law hesitated to go after.
After playing an iconic queen in Game of Thrones, she could definitely do it all again in the MCU. Lena Headey could play the villain we hate or one we relate to. She could deliver a speech about how Earth is being ruined by humans and how the Skrull way is their only hope.
Depending on how true it is could determine whether or not she’s hated or loved. Maybe the character survived Thanos’ snap and saw how peaceful things were without half the population. Who knows?

3. Emilia Clarke
Emilia Clarke didn’t play a one-note character in Game of Thrones. Daenerys Targaryen started out as a scared young woman who forged her own path to becoming a powerful and confident leader. It wasn’t instantaneous – she evolved throughout the series. Then, she ended the series as a villain who burned a town and killed hundreds while she did it. This right here shows that Clarke has the range it takes to play Veranke.
A flashback to her youth could show a teenage Veranke who ends up seeing atrocities that lead her to becoming a leader – another role where the actress goes from timid to destructive. The actress is more than talented enough to play the Skrull Queen and perhaps even another Marvel Comics character while she’s at it.

2. Janelle Monáe
Let’s start off by saying this: There is nothing that Janelle Monáe can’t do. Singer, dancer, actor… and she’s amazing at all three of those things.
It goes without saying that she rocked in Hidden Figures and Moonlight. But we haven’t really seen her in a major action role just yet. The good news is her career is just starting.
Monáe could offer a different kind of Skrull Queen for the MCU – one with a little more seduction to lure in her victims and then punish them. She’s also another actress on this list who can easily pull off menacing. On a few occasions, Janelle Monáe has given off a look that screams “I’m not the person you want to trifle with.” And with that, she could very well embody the role better than anyone else in this article.

1. Naomi Scott
Naomi Scott is going to be a huge star. She’s ultra talented with a beautiful singing voice and acting skill. Many of you may know her from the 2019 Aladdin where she played Princess Jasmine. You may also recognize her from playing Kimberly in the 2017 Power Rangers.
In Aladdin, she played a different kind of Jasmine. One who refused to be just a princess. She knew the kingdom better than anyone and wanted to help the people like her mother. In order to do that, she had to be the sultan. In Power Rangers, she played a kick-butt Power Ranger. Just off of those two roles, she may be the perfect pick for the MCU’s Skrull Queen.
On top of her being able to play Veranke in the MCU, she could also play Jessica Drew (Spider-Woman). As this is being written, she’s 26 years old going on 27. Chris Evans was 29 when he played Captain America for the first time and we were given almost a decade’s worth of movies from him. Naomi Scott could play Veranke as Jessica Drew, and when the war is over, she could actually play Jessica Drew the hero.
It would be a smart thing to cast her early. She’s too talented to not be sought after. Since she has already worked with Disney in the past, this could be a match made in Heaven.
What do you think? Who would you cast in as Veranke in the MCU? Let us know in the comments below.
