X-Men: The 20 best characters of the last decade
By Mark Lynch
1. Kitty Pryde
When this list was in its infancy, the top spot was the easiest part. None of the X-Men have done the things Kitty Pryde has done.
Let’s take a look. First, she was consistently phasing a bullet so planets wouldn’t be destroyed. That saved trillions of lives. When she returned to Earth, she joined Wolverine as the Headmistress of Jean Grey’s School for Higher learning. After becoming displeased with how she was being treated, she joined the outlaw Cyclops and continued helping the time-displaced young X-Men. She went to space and became a Guardian of the Galaxy for a bit. During that time she freed a bunch of alien slaves.
Kitty Pryde eventually returned to Earth where she led the X-Men for a while – the X-Men Gold: A team that focused on helping wherever they could. One of her best moments was shooting down a mutant-phobic woman and helping her change her attitude. On top of that she became the new Professor Xavier. She moved the mansion to Central Park to let the world know mutants were no longer hiding.
Kitty Pryde is now head of the Marauders. A team responsible for saving mutants who want to be on Krakoa or in danger around the world. She’s also a member of the Quiet Council of Krakoa. She’s the Red Queen who sits with Emma Frost and Sebastian Shaw. As of now, she’s dead. Since she couldn’t get into Krakoa, the resurrection protocols don’t seem to be working.
Let’s be honest though, she’ll be back. Kitty has been too important and simply evolved too much to remain dead.
