One of the hottest shows on television right now – or, rather, on streaming services right now – is undoubtedly Netflix’s Ozark, starring Jason Bateman and Laura Linney. The third season gained a very interesting addition to the lead credits in the form of the ever-impulsive but kind-hearted Ben Davis, played by Tom Pelphrey.

Pelphrey’s performance was so critically-acclaimed that not only did he arguably steal the show, but he is currently being pegged as a dark horse contender for an Emmy nomination. His performance as Ben Davis is exactly as unpredictable, unhinged and borderline terrifying enough to suggest he would be a shoe-in for The Joker.

Plus, Pelphrey is no stranger to the superhero genre in his own right. Prior to Ozark, his previous standout performance was his role as Ward Meachum in Iron Fist. Yes, we all know that the reception and legacy of Netflix’s Iron Fist is, for lack of a better term, not great, but it served as a breakout performance for Pelphrey that impressed many, many fans.

Seeing him excel as two completely different characters over the past few years is a clear indicator that he has the range to pull off a complicated and multi-faceted character such as The Joker.
