Marvel Studios went all out at Disney Investor day with some incredible MCU reveals. Here are all the film and TV shows we can expect.

It’s a good time to be a Marvel fan. This Thursday, Disney held its highly-anticipated Investor Day event, offering viewers a sneak peek into its stream of upcoming projects. Of course, no Disney presentation of this magnitude would be complete without Marvel Studios. The House of Ideas had a big presence during the presentation, revealing a number of exciting new chapters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe — both on TV and in theaters.

Let’s delve into the MCU projects coming our way throughout the next few years (warning for eager fans from all of us here at BamSmackPow: have a pillow nearby in case you faint from excitement):

New Marvel and MCU TV Shows revealed during Disney Investor Day:

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige had a lot of surprises for those eager to see the franchise make its mark on the streaming world.

Ironheart

This had been rumored to be in the works for some time now, but it’s finally confirmed: Riri Williams is coming to the MCU. Tony Stark may be dead, but his legacy will live on through Riri. Taking on the role of the young superhero will be Dominique Thorne, a newcomer with an already impressive résumé, having had small roles in If Beale Street Could Talk and the upcoming biographical drama, Judas and the Black Messiah, starring Daniel Kaluuya.

No release date was given, but considering how the show already has its main star, it shouldn’t be long until we know when we should expect it to hit Disney Plus.

Armor Wars

Were you ever frustrated that the long-discussed War Machine film never took off? Well, fret not, because Don Cheadle is getting his own show in the form of Armor Wars. Not much is known about the series, but Kevin Feige revealed the story centers around Tony Stark’s impressive tech falling into the wrong hands. Given how much villains were able to accomplish with Tony’s tech in Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Age of Ultron (yikes, Tony, bad guy much?), Rhodey won’t have an easy time handling the situation.

Secret Invasion

We asked for evil Skrulls and they are coming. As Feige explained during the presentation, this upcoming series will deal with a sect of Skrulls infiltrating “every level of life on Earth.” Worry not, though, because Nick Fury himself, played by Samuel L. Jackson, and Talos, played by Ben Mendelsohn, are on the case to save our planet from the green meanies.

“Secret Invasion” is a cornerstone of Marvel Comics’ history, and seeing how connected the MCU Disney Plus shows are expected to be to the theatrical side of the franchise, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Secret Invasion‘s storyline have a significant impact on the MCU across movies and series, similar to Civil War, which had repercussions for multiple films, including Infinity War, Endgame and Black Widow.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special

Yep. The galaxy’s (multiverse’s?) biggest heroic jerks are getting their own holiday special, written and directed by James Gunn. Most of us in the superhero-movie-loving sphere are already quite familiar with the Guardians’ irreverent tone, and if “Guardians’ Inferno” —the music video that James Gunn directed for the home media release of Vol. 2— is any indication of the zaniness we should expect from this special, we’re in for a ton of fun.

Feige stated the special would be released the holiday prior to Guardians of the Galaxy 3, which is being released in 2023. That means the special will be with us around late 2022.

I Am Groot

If you miss hearing Groot’s catchphrase, you’re in for a treat, because Baby Groot is getting his own series of shorts on Disney+. Feige revealed the shorts will feature a variety of new characters, so we could probably expect some fun comic book lore to be explored throughout Groot’s journey.

Marvel and MCU films announced at Disney Investor Day:

There weren’t many new film announcements at Disney Investor Day when compared to what we got from the television side of the MCU, but that was balanced out by the sheer magnitude of the reveals.

Fantastic Four

That’s right. Two decade-old films and a reboot later, the Fantastic Four are finally coming to the MCU, helmed by Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home director, Jon Watts. The director imbued Spidey’s corner of the MCU with a whimsical tone that made his films a joy to watch, so we can’t wait to see what he will do for Marvel’s First Family.

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania

Now, admittedly, we already knew Ant-Man 3 was coming, but the film received a big spotlight with its title reveal and major casting announcements, which is why we’re putting it on this newly announced-projects list (ok… putting it on the list also gave us an excuse to type the awesome title).

Firstly, we have confirmation that Jonathan Majors, of Lovecraft Country fame, will be bringing Kang the Conqueror to life. Secondly, we now know that Kathryn Newton (Paranormal Activity 4, Big Little Lies, Detective Pikachu) will be playing the young adult version of Scott Lang’s daughter, Cassie Lang.

The film will be directed by Ant-Man-franchise veteran Peyton Reed.

Those are all the new projects that were announced during Investor Day, and, we don’t know about you, but it amazes us to see how far the Marvel Cinematic Universe has come since 2008, when Tony Stark first took flight.

Are you excited about all of the Marvel Studios content coming our way in the near future? Which Disney Investor Day announcement was your favorite? Which film or TV show are you looking forward to the most? Let us know in the comments below!
