In WandaVision, how likely is it that Monica Rambeau’s specialist is a Skrull? It’s a good possibility.
WandaVision continues to be an incredible show. Some viewers may have thought that it started off a little slow, but the steady build has been absolutely worth it. Each episode leaves everyone anticipating the next, ensuring that this was the perfect way to kick off Marvel Studios’ Disney Plus programs.
WandaVision lets fans now know a couple of things. First, Marvel is going to take their time telling stories. There’s no need to rush to the climax because every episode will build up to the season/series finale and, in doing so, hopefully lead to a heck of a conclusion. Second, they’ll continue to leave people asking questions and speculating about what the answers could be. Among those many questions that fans are asking is in regards to Monica Rambeau’s mysterious expert – who she contacted to help with the Westview situation.
Whoever it is an expert that can assist in a way that no one else can. They have to be a specialist in this field or at least someone with genius-level intellect. We’ve looked at the possibility that this expert might be Reed Richards and if it could possibly be Adam Brashear a.k.a. Blue Marvel. The latter is one of the smartest people in Marvel Comics – someone that even Reed Richards goes to when he has problems that need to be solved. He also has a connection to Monica in the comics.
There is someone else who has a relationship with Ms. Rambeau and they’ve already made their Marvel Cinematic Universe debut. Actually, a race of someones. With that in mind, let’s explore the possibility that her contact may be a Skrull.
Wait, Skrulls in WandaVision?!
In Captain Marvel, the MCU introduced the green-skinned alien race called Skrulls. In the comics, they’re a warrior race obsessed with conquering Earth and this obsession has led them to be at odds with many of Earth’s heroes. They’ve even started an invasion of Earth (which will be discussed later).
The Skrulls in the MCU have been peaceful. They were a group of refugees that were hunted down to almost extinction. If not for Captain Marvel and Maria Rambeau, their race may have been abolished by the Kree. This is where Monica comes in.
Monica was just a child when she met the Skrulls in Captain Marvel. From there, we can assume that Monica and her mother (Maria) kept in contact with them – especially considering that S.W.O.R.D. made their way into space. With that in mind, it’s unlikely that they made advances in space travel and technology so quickly without help from the Skrulls. Even if they didn’t, Maria helped save their lives. You can be certain that they checked in on Maria and Monica as the years went on. They were way too close not to.
Since they are a race of beings whose intellects far surpasses people on Earth, Monica would definitely contact them to help with the Wanda situation.
How WandaVision can lead into Secret Invasion
During Disney Investor Day, a Secret Invasion Disney Plus series was announced. If the series is like the comic book, we’ll be looking at the Skrulls replacing people and invading Earth. But could the groundwork for that be laid in WandaVision?
Big crossovers start in other comic books all the time, so crossing over the TV properties early on would be a good way of allowing it to translate to screen. WandaVision continuing what started in Spider-Man: Far From Home is a genius idea. People would then see the Skrulls and instantly look into what else Disney Plus and Marvel Studios have planned, increasing excitement for the upcoming Secret Invasion and possibly even getting people to read the comic series.
There’s another way to look at this connecting as well. As of now, the Skrulls haven’t revealed a reason why they’d invade Earth. In the Secret Invasion comic, it was due to a prophecy. In the series, however, Wanda could be the catalyst that starts this event. They could look at her as yet another threat to the world and why Earth needs the Skrulls’ leadership.
As much as this writer would love for WandaVision to be Blue Marvel’s debut, the Skrull theory is more logical. They’ve been teased in Spider-Man: Far From Home and we know they’ll return in the future, so why not start now?
Whoever Monica’s contact is, we can be sure that it’ll only make WandaVision even better than it already has been.
