Greatest comic book characters – 64. Superior Spider-Man

First comic book appearance: Amazing Spider-Man No. 700

People hated this. Otto Octavius as Peter Parker and Spider-Man? Dan Slott was booed and received threats. Too bad because people missed out on an original take on a character. One that carried on for years and continued to improve.

Otto showed the world what a ruthless and more focused Spider-Man would look like. Otto created tech that helped save lives without being there and turned Peter Parker into a billionaire with his own company. After the real Peter Parker returned, Otto came back in a new, younger, and different body with all the Spider-Powers. The Superior Spider-Man ended too soon as this Otto was ten times the character Doctor Octopus would ever be.

Greatest comic book characters – 63. Invincible

First comic book appearance: Savage Dragon No. 102

We’ve seen what Mark Grayson (Invincible) is capable of in the Amazon Prime series. That’s nothing compared to what he’s done and gone through in the comic book series. Mark goes through hell physically, mentally, and emotionally. Somehow, he manages to get it together and learn from his mistakes.

The animated series is amazing, but, like most adaptations, things get left out. Some of the subject matter is too much for any audience. This is going to happen a lot throughout the program. Meaning you’ll miss things that are important to Mark’s character and growth. This writer suggests reading the source material to see why he’s on this list and higher than some of your favorites.
