Not taking itself seriously

This writer may have been exaggerating when he said that the characters in The Suicide Squad are more well-known. It’s doubtful the general public knows who T.D.K. , The Savant, or even Peacemaker are. Now, cast them with actors that people recognize and love, and the narrative changes. You make Pete Davidson Blackguard and cast Sean Gunn as Weasel and people are automatically interested.

Speaking of Weasel, you have to love what the creative team did here. They know how DC Comics movies are perceived. They’re too dark, not fun, and take themselves too seriously. If the previews are any indication of what’s to come, then this will be better than anyone could hope for.

They added the creepiest thing to appear in a comic book movie and highlighted it. There’s no reason that Weasel should be anywhere near a comic book project. First, it looks nothing like the comic book character. What we have here is a disgusting, unnerving creature and they’ve made people curious about it. We also have King Shark a.k.a. Sylvester Stallone playing a seemingly unintelligible humanoid/deity shark. On paper, none of this should work. Yet, here we are. Waiting for the premiere of a movie where a terrifying, hairy creature is going to make us laugh.
