Marvel Comics: 6 major moments comic book fans should know about (November)
By Mark Lynch
Miles Morales’ cease and desist
Comic book: Miles Morales: Spider-Man No. 32
When Miles Morales officially became part of the 616 Universe, he began working with Peter Parker. After a short time, Peter said he was proud that Miles was Spider-Man. In Amazing-Spider-Man No. 75, we find out that the Beyond Corporation bought the trademark for Spider-Man. At the end of Miles Morales: Spider-Man No. 32 we see how serious they took the trademark as Miles was told he was in violation of the Spider-Man trademark and was required to stop using it immediately.
Why is this important?
Everything that’s happened between Peter Parker, Ben Reilly and Beyond Corp happened fast. Miles may not know what happened to Peter but when he does find out, he won’t be happy. Not only is his friend and mentor in a coma (Amazing Spider-Man No. 76), he’s being told he can’t be Spider-Man. A name and legacy he’s honored to have. Yes, it seems that he and Ben Reilly are destined to have words in the near future.
Besides the cease and desist, Miles will be upset with Ben. It’ll be shocking if this doesn’t end in a fight. Miles will blame Ben for putting Peter in danger even though Peter probably doesn’t fault him. This isn’t a good way for Miles and Beyond Corps’ Spider-Man to start a relationship.
